Ervin Mitchell - "La La La"

On indie upstart Ervin Mitchell’s latest single “La La La” he raps with emotional vulnerability that is incredibly refreshing in 2019’s authenticity withered rap climate. Jay Rewind crafted production that granted Ervin atmospheric and playful soundscape to match. Erv Mitch told Complex in June that he had a fun single on the way that was about “the power of the mind”. After having the Memphis raised + Atlanta based emcee’s bop coming through my AirPods all morning I think that soundbite is apt. Mitchell weaves in and out of references to Obama, Forrest Gump, Santa Claus, and “gas” hotboxes in an Avant Garde style rap banger about manifesting. “La La La” has these feel-good moments where Ervin gives us cathartic affirmations like “I got tired of trying, so I started DOING, now my life affluent”, and “connecting the dots, sit and I plot, focus on things I can change not things I can not”. If “La La La” is any reflection of what to expect on his upcoming "Cudi Baby" EP (Release Date TBA) then that’s a project I’m surely anticipating.
